I started working for Barclays in 1974, when I was 16, at the Hastings branch. Like many, one of my first jobs was making the tea and I remember worrying about how I would manage to lift such a huge tea pot!

I worked there until 1982, then transferred to Crawley, just prior to the big move to 90/92 High Street, and remained there until 1986 when I was transferred to Haywards Heath branch as the Mech Room supervisor. Following a few years at the branch, I moved to Regional Office in 1990 to become one of the regions first Learning Centre supervisors, and then, after a short spell of maternity leave, I became the Regional Training Officer, which is the role I held until I took voluntary redundancy in 1993.

After leaving the bank, despite many training courses, I had no recognisable transferable skills, so I decided to qualify as a book- keeper, and was self-employed for several years whilst the children were small. In 1999, I began working at Burgess Hill Girls school as the sales ledger and payroll clerk where I stayed for 23 years until I retired in May 2022.
I was encouraged to join Mid Sussex Spreadeagles by Lindsey Kearley who, coincidentally retired on the same day as me, and who I first met back in 1982 at Crawley branch where we became friends.

I am married to Ian, a retired police officer, and we have two children, James and Claire, who both live and work in the London area. I am a dog lover and over the years have had many, mainly spaniels or spaniel crosses, and presently own Heidi who is a very active working cocker/collie.

I love travelling, and during my present ‘GAP’ year have many foreign trips planned, including some cruises and holidays in our caravan which we store in Provence, in the south of France.

I enjoy going to the theatre, live music of all genres, and taking part in flyball competitions with Heidi, where we have gained several rosettes.
