Committee
Chairman - Stephen Barnett
I joined Barclays in 1968 at the tender age of sixteen and worked for them for 36½ years until I took Voluntary Redundancy in April 2005.
For the vast majority of my career I worked in high street branches within the Brighton LHO and the South East Region areas. I started at Market Place Haywards Heath and had spells at Burgess Hill, East Grinstead and 50 High Street Crawley. From here, I moved to Storrington to take up my first Office Manger’s appointment and later worked at Lancing, Dorking and Horley.
In 1993, the bank decided to group together various branches and I was fortunate to be given the role of Senior Operations Manager for the Gatwick & Horsham Group. My final job was as a National Manager leading centralised teams responsible for Financial Services, International, Administration & Fraud Prevention, and Customer Services and Processing Centres. This took me to all parts of the country from Swansea to Birmingham and Ramsgate to Exeter.
I joined the Mid Sussex Spread Eagles in 2005 and was “encouraged” to join the Committee soon after. I became Chairman at the AGM in 2009 and I am proud to be involved with such a successful Club.
I am the volunteer bookkeeper for the Wealden Citizens Advice and work one day a week for the Buxted Medical Centre delivering prescriptions to patients’ homes.
I am married to Anne and have two grown-up daughters. My eldest daughter is Emma and she is married to Jamie and in April 2016 their son, Finley was born. Hayley is my younger daughter, and she married Shaun in June 2016 and they have a daughter called Nieve born in March 2014 and a son called Hugh born in 2017. I enjoy DIY, gardening and holidaying with Anne in our caravan.
