Committee
Membership Secretary - David Warburton
I joined the Bank in 1971, after a two year OND course in Business Studies. For most of my career, I worked in a variety of Branches in the London Southern Area, both big (such as Southwark, Croydon and Bromley) and small (such as Carshalton Beeches, Pollards Hill and 393 Lordship Lane) as well as two attachments to Radbroke Hall, where I helped develop the centralised Securities concept.
When the Securities work was moved out of the Branch network in 1997 into local centres, I moved to, and helped set up, the Haywards Heath Financial Services Centre, where I eventually became the Operations Manager.
In 2007, the Bank decided to outsource our work and so, after helping to set the Unit up 10 years previously, I then had to close it down!
I was then made redundant, but soon secured a job with a firm of Accountants based in Brighton. For nearly 12 years, I managed the archiving of all Clients files, distributed regular Newsletters and handled annual insurance covering HMRC investigations, before fully retiring in December 2019.
As soon as I left the Bank I was ‘targeted’ by Stephen Barnett (who, incidentally, had been my Line Manager for a time) and was ‘encouraged’ to join the Spread Eagles. Before I knew it, I was on the Committee and then became the Membership Secretary.
My personal interests are very varied, but include history, wines, railways and holidays (particularly cruising).
I am married to Lynda, who worked for the Bank for some 28 years, before she was made redundant in 2006.
